We are just one sleep away from DGTL Festival in India. The Delhi leg of the festival kicks off tomorrow and the Mumbai leg will be held over the weekend. Featuring some of the biggest names in the world of dance music, DGTL festival will be one of the biggest dance events in the country post pandemic. The 2020 debut edition of the festival was a massive success and we can’t wait to be back this weekend.
One of the fastest rising stars on the DGTL lineup has to be Amsterdam based DJ/Producer Colyn. His initial breakthrough came when the popular duo ‘Tale of Us‘ picked up on his sound and started playing out his music regularly. With ‘Amor‘ getting signed to their successful imprint and event concept ‘Afterlife‘, he started to turn heads.
Colyn’s signature sound evokes transmissions of emotion through soaring nostalgic memories; although you’ve never heard anything quite like this before. Endless textures and delayed synth stutters fall into euphoric grooves each more infectious than the last.
Ahead of his set at DGTL Delhi and Mumbai, we invited Colyn to have a small chat with us. We talk about his experience in India, his inspirations, upcoming music and more.
Hi Colyn, how are you doing? You were in India in March this year, are you excited to be back here?
Definitely! Besides my show with Cercle this year, it’s been a while since I toured India. It must be over 3 years already, so I’m excited to play for my fans in India
You played an incredible set for Cercle in Kerala earlier this year. How was the experience for you?
That was absolutely beautiful. After the world went through such a hard time it felt surreal to come out to this picturesque place and play for a lovely crowd.
Can you tell us the inspiration behind your track ‘Oxygen Levels Low’? We always feel it could be a great soundtrack to a Sci-Fi show.
It started off as any other track but once I sketched out the riff it also gave me old school Sci-Fi vibes, so from there it naturally progressed that way. My good friend Denis Horvat always calls it the ‘Ghostbusters’ track 😂
When you’re making music, do you visualise the track being played in a club or in a festival?
Yes, a lot of times I do envision certain arrangements or moments with a crowd in front of me in mind.
Amsterdam has given the dance music world some amazing artists such as yourself. What role has the city played in shaping your journey as an artist?
I moved there directly after high school and I haven’t regretted that ever since. Amsterdam is the cultural capital of the Netherlands and the same goes for night life and electronic music. You’re able to really discover and develop your musical palette in the city.
Who were some of your inspirations growing up?
I was always inspired by the music produced by Eric Prydz, Tiësto, Faithless.
In 2020, The Future Is The Past was one of the most sought after IDs at DGTL Bengaluru. Can you name one track which we should watchout for in your set without revealing too many details?
My new remix for Editors along with Konstantin Sibold that is infact out today, has been an absolute staple in my sets. Really proud of that one and it always delivers some magic. Watch-out for that one this weekend India 🙂
