Ahead of his two sold-out Sunburn shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru, Boris Brejcha sat down with us for an exclusive conversation. From High Tech Minimal and Cercle to FCKNG SERIOUS and his love for India, here’s what he had to say.

Q. Hey Boris, welcome to India. How does it feel to be back after so many years?
Actually, it feels really good. I mean, it’s been a long time, and yeah, I’m back. I will see how the people are reacting to me after such a long time, but I’m sure it will be nice.

Q. So after playing club shows and a festival the last time you were here, you’re now playing two massive sold-out shows with Sunburn, Asia’s largest festival brand. How does that feel? Two huge sold-out shows.
I don’t know. I mean, I’m just a normal guy, you know. To see that we have two parties here and both of them are super huge and sold out, it just makes me happy that we have this community and these people who love to share these moments with this music. So that’s all I can say. I’m just happy that we can do that.

Q. As dance music enthusiasts, all of us feel that your Cercle set was a real turning point in your career. Since then, you’ve played for them multiple times. What do you feel about your relationship with Cercle?
Actually, I love them. I mean, you can do a DJ set at home or in a club, but Cercle is something totally different because they have the opportunity to choose crazy places. You would never imagine playing there. And I’m the only one who has played three times for them, and that’s super massive. I mean, the people love it, and they’re coming not only for the artists; they’re also coming for the Cercle guys because of the venue and all this stuff. And that’s amazing.

Q. You’ve been hailed as the father of High-Tech Minimal. Where do you see this genre going? You initiated it and gave it its identity. What’s your vision for the genre in the future?
I don’t know. I mean, I was just creating this genre because when I started making music, I was doing a lot of minimal music because it was super big back then. But after a while, it was getting boring. I came from trance music, so I started combining trance with minimal, and that’s why I chose this name. I’m super happy that I see a lot of people wanting to create this music as well. That’s really nice to see. But I don’t know what we can expect in the future. It’s just a genre I love, and the people share that love, so that’s cool.

Q. What direction have you set for your music label going forward, both for the label itself and for the artists on it?
I mean, we have one new artist. His name is Moritz. Yeah, he’s really, really strong and really good. I think he’s gonna have a super nice career. But of course, all the other artists are super nice too. And I mean, back in the day when I was in India, I think 2017 was the last time we were here with all the guys, with the whole team, and that was super nice because we’re like a little family. So maybe, I hope, Deniz was here, Ann Clue was here, and now I’m here, but everybody came alone, you know. I think it makes more sense to maybe put them together and make a FCKNG serious night. That would be cool.

Q. What was the first piece of hardware you owned as a producer? Or have you always preferred software?
I have to say, I’m just a software child, so I started with software. But there was one point when I bought one hardware synthesizer called the Virus. I used it for one week, and then I sold it because, I don’t know… I was born with software, and for me, it’s much faster. And total recall is super massive. The sound is already the same as hardware. It’s just a matter of taste, you know.

Q. How has your experience been working with Sunburn?
Actually, we have to wait. I mean, this is the first time we’re working with them. Till now, it’s been super cool and super smooth. So I hope it stays like this. Then, yeah, perfect.

Q. What are you looking forward to doing while you’re here in India?
We don’t have too much time. Today we had no time to do anything, just hang around by the pool and have some food. Maybe tomorrow we go to Bangalore, and after the show we have one day off. Then we’re gonna see what we can do. Maybe visit some places or something.

Thank you Boris, have an amazing time in India. Cheers!!
