The JBL Music Academy 2025 has officially concluded, wrapping up another successful edition of one of India’s most exciting platforms for emerging musicians. The third chapter of the Academy not only continued JBL’s mission to discover and elevate young talent but also delivered its biggest moment yet the legendary A.R. Rahman joining the program as the chief mentor and final selector.
With over 360 entries pouring in from every corner of the country, this year’s JBL Music Academy showcased the immense diversity and creativity thriving in India’s independent scene. From indie-pop and rap to electronic and fusion, the submissions represented a wide spectrum of fresh sounds and stories waiting to be heard.
After a rigorous selection process, 12 finalists were chosen and paired into six teams under the mentorship of three of the industry’s most respected names: Karan Kanchan, Ankur Tewari, and Karsh Kale. Each mentor brought a distinct approach, pushing the artists to collaborate, experiment, and challenge themselves creatively.
Six Teams. Six Tracks. One Winner.
Under the guidance of their mentors, the finalists created six original tracks each representing a unique take on India’s evolving sonic identity:
- Pratika x Raksheet | Makka
- Napnosis x Rekurrem | Speed of Light
- Dawgeek x Arkh | Dhiktak
- Shia x Prashanth | Anima
- Damini x Mudra | Tharikita Love
- Pratham X Srujan | Laya
All six songs stood out for their innovation and artistry, proving how platforms like JBL Music Academy are helping shape India’s next generation of music creators.
A defining moment of this year’s program was an exclusive roundtable session with A.R. Rahman, where the finalists shared their journeys, discussed creative challenges, and gained invaluable insights from one of the most iconic figures in global music.
A.R Rahman’s involvement made the 2025 edition truly special motivating participants to not just make music, but to create fearlessly and authentically.
“Makka” Takes the Crown
The grand finale brought together the finalists, mentors, and A.R. Rahman for the ultimate showdown. After a combined evaluation from the jury and social voting, “Makka” by Pratika and Raksheet emerged as the winning track a powerful, high-energy collaboration that embodies the Academy’s spirit of experimentation and collaboration.
As part of their grand prize, the duo will now travel to Amsterdam, visiting Martin Garrix’s STMPD Studios to meet global winners, collaborate internationally, and experience the global music scene up close a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any rising artist.
Since its inception, the JBL Music Academy has served as a launchpad for young artists giving them mentorship, exposure, and the resources to take their craft to the next level. Past finalists like Himanshu Kalwani (2023) and Saachi Rajadhyaksha (2024) have already made waves in the Indian indie circuit, and this year’s edition only expands that legacy. By blending mentorship with hands-on experience, JBL continues to strengthen its role in nurturing India’s music community and spotlighting local talent on a global stage.
