New Delhi-based electronic music producer and DJ 2rist has released his second album, ‘Trending ?’, a 12-track project shaped by repetition, movement, hypnotic textures and detailed sound design.
Built over the last few years, the album takes inspiration from the way trends and cultural moments constantly change: appearing, gaining momentum, disappearing and often resurfacing again. Rather than focusing on the internet itself, Trending ? looks at the feeling of watching culture move in loops online and translates that constant movement into something physical through sound.
At the centre of the album is its question mark. What rises? What sticks? What disappears just as quickly? Those questions inform the record’s underlying concept, as 2rist explores the fleeting nature of trends while creating something intended to last beyond the moment.
Sonically, Trending ? moves through dark grooves, hypnotic textures, shifting tempos and detailed percussion, balancing control with moments of unpredictability. The result is an album designed for the dancefloor, while leaving enough detail in its production to reward deeper listening.
The record opens with ‘Durra’, a percussive and powerful cut aimed squarely at peak-time energy, before moving into ‘Leaving Home’, which combines hypnotic, raw and energetic elements. Elsewhere, ‘Science Dropout’ takes a more ambient and dreamy direction, while ‘Magic’ brings together melodic textures, percussion and a floor-oriented approach.
Across its 12 tracks, Trending ? maintains a sense of constant motion. The repetition isn’t simply about recreating the same idea; it reflects the way trends themselves cycle through culture, returning in new forms, gaining attention and eventually fading into the background.
That idea also gives the album its title. ‘Trending ?’ isn’t necessarily asking what is trending at any particular moment. Instead, it questions the lifespan of a trend itself, what makes something rise, why certain things stay, and why others disappear almost as quickly as they arrived.
For 2rist, the album became a way of turning that observation into something tangible. The fleeting nature of online trends provided the starting point, but Trending ? ultimately exists as a physical, rhythmic and immersive body of work.
Produced and mixed by Shivansh Mehra and mastered by SHFT, the album brings together 12 tracks that move between hypnotic grooves, atmospheric textures and detailed percussion, keeping the record in motion from beginning to end.
With Trending ?, 2rist captures a familiar feeling of contemporary culture: the sense that everything is constantly moving, changing and coming back around and gives it a place to exist beyond the fleeting nature of a feed or a trend cycle.
