DIVINE Announces Title Track From His Upcoming Sophomore Album ‘Punya Paap’
Riding on the success of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Kohinoor,’ a year later, the multi-platinum rapper DIVINE announces the launch of his second album titled ‘Punya Paap.’ The hip hop superstar is all set to launch the knockout title track from his forthcoming eclectic album today in association with Mass Appeal India and Gully Gang Entertainment across all major streaming platforms.
The full-bodied track is an intriguing prospect for anybody who believes in the power of catharsis after an examination of the conscience. The track name was inspired by the popular bar from DIVINE’s 2019 single ‘Kohinoor’ – ‘Saathvi se saath dost ab bhi mere saath hai / Abhi bhi karte punya, abhi bhi karte paap hai’. Directed by filmmaker Abhay Raha and produced by Gully Gang Entertainment, the music video is set in the heartland of Goa and aesthetically captures the mojo of the track.
Commenting on the track DIVINE states, “Punya Paap is a very personal offering that gives a perspective of my life, the good the bad and the ugly. Family, God and music have been my fortune and blessing (punya). Parallelly temptations and vices (paap) have also been around me in the form of money, fame, wrong company. The title track of the album is an authentic reflection of my life and how I want to reconstruct it from hereon. Whether I want to continue to partake in the unabashed drama or whether I want to seek redemption, the pandemic has presented this choice to me.”
With this track DIVINE attempts to leverage his unreserved passion of optimism, as someone who would rather count his blessings than the currency he makes. A trailblazer of message-driven music, he prides himself on growth: ‘Hum na darte paap karke seekhe punya’, he raps on ‘Punya Paap’, a fiery rendition about wins, losses and rebirth. The track gently reminds us that we sin not just by what we do, but also by what we fail to do for those most in need in our world transforming the track into a universal call for collective transformation - an embrace of solidarity and unification at a time of enormous worldwide exploitation and polarization. This is why DIVINE’s name continues to stay on the lips of rap connoisseurs almost a decade after his debut.
