The global phenomenon known as Electric Daisy Carnival finally made it’s way to India this November. Fans from over 10 cities flocked the nation’s capital to attend the inaugural edition of EDC at the majestic Buddh International Circuit in Delhi NCR. And we were not going to stay back and miss this incredible event. So we packed our bags and joined our friends over at Budweiser who made the whole EDC Experience something we will never forget. Join us and read on as we throw back on one of the best festival experiences India has ever seen, Budweiser presents Electric Daisy Carnival 2016.
The debut edition of Budweiser presents EDC India introduced by Insomniac and OML set a new benchmark for music festivals in India. The cutting edge production and stellar lineup paved the path for what can only be termed as a revolution in the Electronic Music Festival space in India. The festival spanned across 2 days on the 12th and 13th of November 2016 and featured some of the best names in the Electronic Dance Music world. The artist lineup featured international headliners like Alesso, Afrojack, Brillz, Crizzly, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, R3hab, Steve Aoki, The Upbeats, Tommy Trash, Vini Vici and Yellow Claw who headlined the festival along with some of the best homegrown talent in the country. As promised by OML, the lineup comprised of 80% homegrown acts which in itself is a wonderful gesture and initiative by them. The festival featured 3 insanely setup stages and a roaming radio DJ van that featured over 40 artists and also saw Insomniac’s own performers who spread smiles and colors all over the arena.
EDC 2016 was home to 3 top notch stage designs. The mainstage, Kinetic Fields, was home to one of the best stage design we’ve seen in recent times. Right from it’s sheer size to the trademark EDC Owls that stood tall on both sides of the artists that graced the stage. The pyros and the fireworks on the mainstage simply blew our minds. The Neon Garden stage was Budweiser’s very own Underground mecca which featured some of the best homegrown talent in the country that have been responsible for bringing the underground scene to where it is. Paired with an off the hook sound setup the Neon Garden had its own audience which could not get enough of the fist pumps and foot stomps. And then we come to the stage that was the winner for us, The Circuit Grounds stage. This stage had the best audio-visual productions we have seen. The cutting edge lasers absolutely owned both days! And the mind bending visuals for the Dreamstate and Bassrush experience were something which had the audience talking even after the day ended.
The Experience – Dreamstate and Bassrush
The Circuit Grounds stage at EDC 2016 featured 2 unique showcases that had their fans floored with the level of production that went into hosting them. Day 1 featured the Insomniac’s very own Dreamstate property which put together some of trance music’s legends and paired them up with a stellar audio-visual setup. With lasers that made every fan stand still with their jaws dropped and lift their hands to touch the waves of lasers that hit them, the Dreamstate showcase was every trance lover’s delight. Artists like Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz and Vini Vici played some beautiful sets and gave us memories to take back home. Day 2 featured the Bassrush Experience showcase which was every bas lover’s paradise. A sound setup that made sure you could feel the bass the way it is supposed to be felt, to the bones! And once again the crazy visuals during Crizzly and Brillz sets blew our minds away. It was an experience which we won’t forget for a long time.
The venue of EDC 2016 might just take home the award for real MVP of the festival. The Buddh International Circuit is easily the best man made Festival venue in the country. The venue was not only congestion free but provided an experience which we haven’t seen in a long time. Lot’s of free space to walk, sit, lie down on the grass and stare at the starry sky while listening to some heavenly music. The tarmac roads provided for a dust free environment and a much needed levelled ground for non stop dancing. The venue also had ample parking space and was brilliantly managed to provide an overall hasslefree experience to the patrons.
Over the 2 days we witnessed some brilliant music on all the stages. Right from Alesso’s power packed performance to Afrojack’s impeccable crowd control on the mainstage to Ferry Corsten’s beautiful set which featured some classic trance tracks that made fans cry with happiness and euphoria to the beyond perfect vibes at the Neon Grounds stage set by Pearl and Arjun Vagale. The music was not restricted to any specific genre and had a well maintained balance that is much needed in today’s festivals. From Big Room to Drum and Bass, from Trance to Techno, we got a dose of everything and we couldn’t have asked for more. Music is the key factor at any festival and EDC definitely was on point with its music offerings.
The Icing on the Cake
The icing on the cake at EDC 2016 was the wide array of art installments they had placed all across the arena, the lights and the overall decor of the festival. With neon lights strewn along the pathway from one stage to another, the world of EDC 2016 was literally Electric. Some beautifully crafted and trippy art installments and decorations graced the Buddh circuit. The festival experience was completed in the true sense by the 2 Ferris Wheels that offered a bird’s eye view of the entire festival and its lively atmosphere! Insomniac’s very own Funkdafied Crew of performers and acrobats graced every stage for a while as they roamed around the festival meeting and greeting fans and even posing for pictures. Decked in theatrical costumes designed and crafted specially for EDC, this motley crew of dancers, stilters, aerialists, circus performers and other whimsical characters pushed the boundaries of the imagination.
The Cherry On Top Of The Icing
We could not have asked for a better host than the Budweiser crew. From the Bud Flight that flew us to Delhi, with an awesome in-flight party to the Out Of This World experience at the Brew District, Budweiser made sure that us along with a few more chosen people received the best and most royal treatment ever. We stayed for 2 days in the Brew District and were pampered with Chilled Buds, Mouth Watering Burgers, After Parties and those heavenly spa sessions! A chilled beer, a hot juicy burger and a nice footrub, what else does one need after a long day at EDC 2016? Unlimited Beers and More good food at the festival too maybe? Well, The Budweiser Experience lounge gave us just that!
Well, that sums up our Budweiser presents EDC journey. We would like to thank the entire crew at OML and Budweiser for making us feel at home at EDC 2016. We look forward to seeing you next year!
