Rising Dutch house duo East & Young have put their golden touch to Louis The Child & Icona Pop’s big new pop single Weekend. Since their debut, the duo released on leading labels such as Ultra, Big Beat and Strictly Rhythm, as well as collaborating with Galantis on the huge Make Me Feel (featured in the new Netflix Original film XOXO). This new remix marks one of their highest profile outings to date, working with the vocals of one of the most distinctive and popular voices around in the form of Icona Pop.
The remix foresees East & Young continue their succesful relationship with Big Beat Records, who released their massive In The Sky (Horizon) single in 2014, followed by a re-vocalled version in 2015. Remixes for Galantis, Dada Life and Rondé have also really helped to put the duo on the map, racking up millions of plays. With sets, and even hosting their own area, at Mysteryland and several editions of Sensation over the last year, they are rapidly becoming one of the hottest acts around.
The duo take the infectious, downtempo pop of the original and mould it into a piano house banger that’s fit for all manner of dance floors. Building through skippy percussion and cowbells, the first breakdown gives a nod to the feel of the original, switching to a stripped-back half-time arrangement that lets the powerful vocal really come to life. A synth and snare roll-driven build drops us into those feel-good piano chords and phat bass, layering up to create a seriously chunky feel. Throw in some tasty horn hooks and blissful chimes in the second break and you’ve got an irresistible slice of energetic house music that really hones in on the sentiment of the lyrics.
