Having secured multiple Grammy nominations and bagging the tittle of the “Best House DJ” for two years consecutively, we present to you Axwell.
Axel Christofer Hedfors, is one of the most respected names in the music industry. He picked up his drum sticks at the age of 9 and has been rolling out independent music ever since. In his early days, Axwell released very limited copies of a techno/hard trance EP on vinyl under the name OXL in 1995.
He first hit the Billboard dance chart hit in 2003 with the single “Burning” (a collaboration with Robbie Rivera and Suzan Brittan).
Very soon came along “Feel the Vibe” in 2004 which would very soon resurface as one of the biggest cross over dance records of 2005 with all new vocals from singer Tara McDonald. 2005 also saw the release of the dance hit “Watch the Sunrise” with Steve Edwards on vocals, along with the formation of the Axwell’s very own label, Axtone.
In the spring of 2006, Axwell joined hands with Steve Angello, under alias of “Supermode” and rolled out Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy”, producing “Tell Me Why”. But things got real big in 2007 when Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso played the Main Room at Cream Amnesia as the “Swedish House Mafia” & we all are surely well versed with their remaining history!
In the summer of 2010 SHM rolled out their anthem, “One,” also known as “One (Your Name)” (Vocals : Pharrell Williams). The song was a Top Ten hit in the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and landed on the group’s debut album, “Until One”.
In the same year, -Axwell and Dirty South’s remix of the song “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap, received a nomination for the 53rd Grammy Awards in the category for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
Fast forwarding to 2012 and SHM announces that they would no longer be continuing as a trio. This decision of theirs left most of their fans shocked and heart broken, but things had to go on…
Later that year, Axwell’s remix of “In My Mind” by Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl featuring Georgi Kay was released on Beatport, and then was nominated for the 55th Grammy Awards in the category of Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.
But it was in 2013, that Axwell really shined. Axwell’s new single “Center of the Universe” (A personal favorite) was released on Beatport and soon reached number one on the Beatport charts.
His subsequent single, with Sick Individuals feat Taylr Renee, “I Am” was released on 16 September and also reached number 1. In 2014, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso officially formed the group Axwell Λ Ingrosso. They have since released six new singles together.
Guess what? On the 13th of January, Axwell will be back in India for his gig in Delhi and to top it all off, it’s going to be a free show with Nikhil Chinapa and other artists performing along with Axwell.
