Otto Yliperttula professionally known as YOTTO, a Finnish producer from Helsinki has taken the world of Dance Music with a storm in the past couple of years. Regarded by fans as the next legend to come from the Anjunadeep stable, YOTTO has played at sold out shows across the world. He also featured on Above & Beyond’s landmark ABGT200 celebrations in Amsterdam and was also a part of the Anjunadeep label tour in North America very recently. Next week, his Indian fans get a triple dose of the superstar as he headlines the Anjunadeep Goa celebrations at Satellite Beachside and Wonderwall Festival before he plays at the landmark 10th anniversary edition of Sunburn Festival in Pune. We thought about taking a look at YOTTO’s music and his career before he arrives in India.
Growing up in a music oriented family he YOTTO always had his roots in music. He started taking Piano lessons since his childhood till the age of 14 and was influenced with a wide range of music like West Coast Hip Hop and Metal bands like Iron Maiden & Manic Street Preachers.
Yotto followed industry legends like Sasha, John Digweed, Chicane, Way Out West and many more while he was growing up & producing electronic music. These early influences pushed him further to develop his own trademark sound which he seems to have now mastered. In the year 2015, Yotto officially joined Anjunadeep roster with his debut release ‘Momento / Azzurro‘ which got support from a range of stars, from Gorgon City to Tiesto. His ‘Wondering‘ EP picked up support from BBC Radio 1, Sirius XM and even from some versatile artists like Lane 8, The Magician & Kidnap Kid.
His final release of 2015 ‘Personal Space‘ was picked up by Pete Tong on November 20th as the Essential New Tune and the accompanying track ‘Mulholland 99‘ was featured on Pete Tong’s radio show. The tracks received support from some renowned names like Dusky, Kidnap Kid, Lane 8 and many more.
Having played at a couple of major festivals across the world, YOTTO ended 2015 with a mesmerising sundowner at India’s very own Vh1 Supersonic festival in Candolim, Goa. He followed his India debut with a 4 City Tour of the country a few months later.
YOTTO kicked off year 2016 with 2 banging remixes, first a rework of RUFUS – ‘Like an animal’ another Essential new tune on Pete Tong’s Radio show on BBC Radio 1, followed by a stellar remix of Coldplay’s hit ‘Adventure of a lifetime’. His 2 original releases ‘Crosswalk‘ & ‘Aviate‘ received tremendous response and support from artists like Above & Beyond, Mark Knight, Sasha, Tiesto & more. ‘Aviate’ went on to become YOTTO’s third Essential new tune on BBC Radio 1. YOTTO later on continued to bless his fans with more masterpieces like ‘The Owls‘, ‘Coopers Cup‘ & ‘Firewalk‘. His track ‘The Owls‘ went on to become the Essential New Tune, making it his 4th.
He achieved one more milestone in his career by playing on ‘Mau5trap vs Pryda‘ stage at Tomorrowland 2016. His ABGT200 set is considered to be one of his finest sets. Yotto has toured India couple of times now and has a really good fan following in the country.
We can’t wait to see him again very soon on the Sands of Goa at Wonderwall Festival where he goes back to back with label legend Jody Wisternoff at the Anjunadeep Goa showcase before playing another 2 hour set on the same night at Satellite Festival on 29th December, 2016. He also plays the next day at Sunburn Festival, Pune.
