We are just a few weeks away from witnessing India’s first ever edition of Electric Daisy Carnival which is being presented by Budweiser at the Buddh International Circuit in Delhi on the 12th and 13th of November. The stunning lineup is an eclectic mix of some of best international and Indian artists with biggies including Afrojack, Alesso, Tommy Trash and Yellow Claw, alongside some of the best homegrown artists like Anish Sood, Nucleya, Zaeden and Pearl to name a few.
The Indian edition promises to be in tune with the festival’s renowned Vegas-style atmosphere and audiences can expect to see a carnival environment with performance artists.
We here at the CME HQ thought we would help you get better acquainted with some of the headliners from the festival in our section ‘All About’. Here’s taking a look at the journey of Amsterdam based artist Yellow Claw.
Ever since their last visit to India, Yellow Claw’s fans here have been eagerly waiting for news of their return and they sure are rejoicing now that they are part of the EDC India lineup. Yellow Claw are undoubtedly the kings of trap with a repertoire that features a unique blend of different genres, mainly consisting of trap, hardstyle and hip-hop which sets their music apart from the other artists. Today they have become one of the biggest names in the electronic music industry touring the globe and performing at festivals such as Tomorrowland, EDC, Ultra and Summer festival to name a few.
Yellow Claw originally started out as a trio consisting of Jim Aasgier, Nizzle and Bizzey. However, Bizzey recently departed from the group in order to spend more time with his family but still continues to help and support the two of the remaining members. They gained popularity in 2010 when they hosted a bunch of parties at one of Amsterdam’s most famous clubs the ‘Jimmy Woo’. They further gained popularity when their tracks “Krokobil”, “Nooit Meer Slapen”, “Thunder” and “Last Night Ever” scaled the Dutch and Belgian charts and received millions of views on YouTube.
Their career rose to new heights when Diplo signed them to his ‘Mad Decent’ recording label on which they released their first EP titled ‘Amsterdam Trap Music’ in 2013 which they followed up a few months later with their second EP called ‘Amsterdam Twerk Music’. In the same year after signing to Spinnin Records they released their track ‘Shotgun’ with vocals by Rochelle that peaked at #10 in the Netherlands and #20 in Belgium. In 2014, Yellow Claw released their song titled ‘Till It Hurts’ on Spinnin Records featuring vocals by Ayden which quickly rose to the top of the Dutch charts and its official video has received over 46 million views on YouTube till date.

But that’s not all that Yellow Claw had in store for 2014. Later that year they launched their very own recording label named ‘Barong Family’ on which they released their single titled ‘In My Room’ that they produced alongside DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign, and Tyga that currently has over 8 million views on YouTube and over 3 million plays on Soundcloud. In 2015 Yellow Claw released their highly anticipated debut album titled ‘Blood For Mercy’ on Mad Decent that quickly soared to the top of the charts and landed on the #1 spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart, the Top Dance & Electronic Albums chart and also reached the #3 spot on Beatport’s Top 10 Releases after which they embarked on a massive tour of the US. They also recently even won the Edison Award for dance music in the Netherlands.
Since starting out Yellow Claw have also released numerous remixes and mixtapes and have even released a wide range of their ‘Blood For Mercy merch’ which is surely something that each and every Yellow Claw fan out there has at the top of their ‘Must Have’ list. The boys are currently working on their second album and who knows we might even get a sneak peak of it when we see them live at EDC.
